The Tasmanian Writers Centre invites you to spend just a few moments a day for the week surrounding the 15th of November learning about writers who have been imprisoned or killed for their writing around the world.
PEN International, the organisation who initiated ‘Day of the Imprisoned Writer’ in 1981, provides a list of Focus cases every year and we will be providing back ground information and options for taking action wherever possible from Monday the 13th of November through to Friday the 17th.
Each year, on 15 November PEN International, PEN Centres and PEN members from around the world commemorate the Day of the Imprisoned Writer to highlight and campaign on behalf of writers who face unjust imprisonment, attacks, harassment and violence simply for their free expression work.
We believe that this is a hugely important issue for our community of writers and readers, and for the world at large. For this week we urge members, followers and friends to share the Focus Cases and use the hashtag #weseeyou.
