The Tasmanian Poetry Festival main events will be in Launceston on the weekend from Friday 6th to Sunday 8th October.

Pre-festival curtain raiser event: Saturday September 30th 6.30 pm Mountain Mumma Restaurant, in the scenic town of Sheffield! A three-course meal with readings by scheduled local poets as well as open mic—so bring a poem!

Friday 6th October

WORDS ON WATER: The 2017 Tasmanian Poetry Festival kicks off in its home city on board the Tamar Odyssey as twilight settles over the Tamar River. Featuring readings by Festival Guest Poets. Home Point Marina 6.15pm for 6.30pm departure.

FRIDAY NIGHT READINGS: Return to the Festival’s weekend home, St Ailbe’s Hall, 46 Margaret St., for a light meal and readings by Festival Guest poets & Open Mic readings for anyone who wishes to share a poem (5 minute/2 poem limit). 8.00-10.30 pm

Saturday 7th October

MID MORNING POETS: Readings by Festival Guest Poets + open mic. 10.30am-12.00 noon

LUNCH: Over lunch enjoy Lingua Franka, a presentation of poetic responses to the work of Frank Zappa.

SCONNETS! Readings from our Guest Poets and open mic. with afternoon tea with fresh scones, jam and cream on sale in the break. 1.30-4.00pm

THE LAUNCESTON POETRY CUP throws open the challenge to any willing poet: if you can generate the loudest audience response in under a minute with your poem, the silverware is yours. Open to everyone and anyone! It’s loud, it’s contagious, it’s the most fun you’ll ever have in verse. Enjoy a light supper as contestants battle valiantly for the honour and glory that is winning the Launceston Poetry Cup! 7.30pm

Sunday 8th October

AFTERNOON READINGS: celebrate the work of each of the 2017 Guest Poets, who will all read at this event which will be broadcast live on City Park Radio and recorded for posterity!

Featuring the Festival raffle draw. Help bring down the curtain on another fabulous weekend feast of contemporary verse.  1pm– 4.30pm, at St Ailbe’s
