‘Stuff that Happened’ with Carmel Bird
Date and time: 17th March 2018 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
Location: Moonah Arts Centre, 23-27 Albert Rd, Moonah Tasmania 7009
In this 3-hour workshop award-winning writer Carmel Bird will guide participants through the process of writing memoir.
The session will involve reading examples of various kinds of memoir, doing a number of writing exercises, and responding to different forms of inspiration. There will be time to discuss the highly fascinating role of memory in writing, the nature of ‘truth’, ownership of stories, as well as the often vexed prospect of writing about family and friends, and of the different perspectives the writer and their associates might have of an event.
Carmel grew up in Launceston and went to university in Hobart. She has written over thirty books, including Writing the Story of Your Life, and Dear Writer Revisited. In 2016 she received the Patrick White Literary Award.
Her recent ebook The Dead Aviatrix is available on Amazon.
