Women’s Poetry Oasis with Sarah Day

Date and time: 16th November 2017 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm

Location: Mathers House, 108 Bathurst Street, Hobart Tasmania

The Women’s Poetry Oasis November guest will be Hobart poet Sarah Day, whose seventh book Tempo was published in 2013. Tempo was shortlisted for the Prime Minister’s Literary Awards and received the Wesley Michelle Wright Prize. Awards for previous books include the Queensland Premier’s, Judith Wright ACT and the Anne Elder.

Sarah will discuss the acoustics of poetry, drawing on a number of poems and the patterns of sound that are integral to them; there will also be the opportunity to practice some elements of aural craft. Throughout the session, there will be a focus on the subject of parents.

Sarah will also be reading from her own work.

A $5 donation is requested to cover costs.

This will be the final meeting of The Women’s Poetry Oasis for 2017. The Women’s Poetry Oasis is a forum for women with an interest in writing and appreciating poetry. It meets at Mathers House, next to the State Library in Bathurst Street on the third Thursday of each month. The Women’s Poetry Oasis is proudly supported by the Tasmanian Writers Centre.
